
340 non readers undergo reading tutorial
To address the high number of non readers in Bukandala ES, the school implemented the CI project FRIESS where 340 non readers undergo small group tutorial session.
Teachers from Kinder to Grade 6 extended one hour to teach at least 6 learners per session every day.
Learners were categorized into two levels where level one learners were taught about the basic sound of letters up to the CVC words while level two learners were taught about CVCs, phrases, sentences and short paragraph.
Teachers prepared localized modules and learning materials in implementing the program.
“This program aims to bridge the gap of learning to the identified non readersi. It is a must that all learners must know how to read because without reading he/she will not learn in all learning areas”, Andrea A. Angeles said.
Reading opens the door to academic success of the students thus it is the heart of all formal education.
